January Photowalks and other photographic opportunities

We’re looking forward to another colourful and adventurous year ahead with many photowalks and social get togethers.

Anyone can create or suggest a photowalk. A good place to start is to make a suggestion on the facebook wall to get a feel for which date would suit people keen to join. Next step is then to go ahead and schedule a new meetup on http://www.meetup.com/joburg-photowalkers. I’ll then add the event to facebook and always happy to help co-ordinate any photowalks. http://www.facebook.com/JoburgPhotowalkers?sk=events
Our photowalks are free unless there is a cost involved, like for getting a tour guide etc.

We’re doing a project with CHOC Cows to help raise funds for the Childhood Cancer Foundation and we’d love for you to partake in this initiative. Please submit images to photosubmit@joburgphotowalkers.com

Call for Photographic Submissions

We the Joburg Photowalkers would like to become involved with the CHOC Cows and help raise funds for the Childhood Cancer Foundation. You all have gazillions of images on your computer, and we would like Photowalkers to come forward and submit their Top 5 images that they would be willing to ‘donate’.

You will essentially be giving us (The Committee) permission to have the image printed at no cost to you.  The Committee will then select images, and we’re going to arrange an Art Exhibition probably towards the end of February.  Any proceeds from this exhibition will be donated to CHOC Cows, and will not be for the photographers financial gain.

Should you wish to sell your image, or print it for anyone else, it will still remain your property.  The Photographer, The Photowalkers, the company who does the printing/stretching…. anyone who is involved, will ALL be mentioned and receive publicity.  We’re aiming at Corporates, and hope to have a cocktail party/opening.  The long term plan, is to have a ‘stock’ of these images, which we can draw from from time to time, for other exhibitions / Box n Dine evenings / Aucutions…. however we feel fit.

If you’re happy to ‘donate’ an image (please remember we need signed Model Releases if there are people in the pic), then please submit them to in a reduced size (no more than 1.5mbs), so that we can go through them and start selecting.  We will then ask for full hi-res images at a later stage.  Images need to be clear of ‘dust-bunnies’, sharp, well exposed and interesting – something you would hang in your home or office.

We are aiming at up market corporates, and as such have decided to NOT theme this, but rather request your BEST images – preferably not of a personal nature (i.e. kids, family)  Landscape / city scape / modern ‘edgy’ images – maybe something thats been awesomely edited?  Something that you think a corporate would like for their offices (or in a hotel foyer?)  Who knows who we’re going to reach, and where it could take YOU, the photographer.  So scratch through your images, and look for something thats AWESOME!!

Please submit images to Craig Nicholson at photosubmit@joburgphotowalkers.com,  and he will co-ordinate the collection of these images for discussion.

12 Decades Photo Exhibition

This is an open project and anyone is free to partake. Our inspiration comes from 12 Decades Art Hotel, where the exhibition will be hosted. The room designs trace the history of Johannesburg over a 120 year period from the discovery of gold at Langlaagte in 1886 and the gold rush that followed, to resistance theatre and apartheid, democracy, architecture and fashion.
